pop music is bad?

Why is it considered so bad to like pop music? If you listen to a wide variety of music, is it so terrible to like some pop songs.

1. it's not bad to like pop music, it's just the industry is so messed up. it sounds all the same anyway

6. I don't think so. I don't think it's "bad" to like any type of music. You like what you like..why should you be judged for that? I listen mainly to Rock and it's many sub-genres, but I'm not afraid to admit that I'm a fan of Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson and Duran Duran. [A big leap from the music i usually listen to, but i love them all the same]. However, quite a few pop musicians are not respectable.. it's as if they gained their fame through extreme marketing and nothing more. I think that's where the negativity comes from, i could be wrong. x
7. It sounds all the same almost, and their style is half nude models and crap. Look at Britney Spears. Bad Influence. And just because Rap is the shiznet!!!
8. Actually I love Pop, I just can't stand the mainstream slop that's played so profusely on the radio nowadays.

Because some people think that POP MUSIC is: -catchy tunes without meaning that only lasts while is advertising( It 's no truth because there are short-lived pop like Britney Spears, and there're too GOOD pop like Phil Collins, Celine Dion... etc) -some people only like "hard rock" and think pop is only for sentimental and gay people. ( pop music usually has "love lyrics", but music is not only that, but above all is SONORITY.Also does not only exist "sweet songs" but too there are more styles like pop-rock....) In short, pop music can be a very good kind of music, depends on how is made.

16. a lot of ppl including myself dont even consider it music...the pop music industry is very screwed up right now it use to not b and the basiclly consist of lyrics that are very annoying and extremely pointless (ex:lip gloss) its also closely associated w/ rap which many more ppl h8! but its what u like so listen to it if u like it don't worry what everyone else says

18. Nah, pop songs are great although I must say I listen to more pop from the 60's and 70's then modern pop!!
19. 'Pop' is short for 'popular' so by definition a rock song in the charts is 'pop' as it's a popular song. But I know where you're coming from and if you like something, it shouldn't matter what style of music it is. People who limit themselves to one style are seriously missing out. '80's pop is still king though. FACT!

22. Pop is not bad! I love pop, I listen to girls aloud, blue, westlife and mostly sugababes. It's just that some pop songs are not that great, their lyrics are not meaningful it's just that the music is great for example. I heard someone said pop music shouldn't exist at all and I find that really offending as I love pop and the songs can be heartfelt!
23. I love pop music and I don't care what anyone else thinks - I don't have to prove myself to anyone. I also don't care about the business side of any of the creative industries because that's the way it is. There are art forms (the artist) and there is the money making from that art (business, marketing). It's just a fact of life and that's the way it is and I don't understand this holier than thou attitude. Everyone has to sell because everyone has to make a living - can it get more simple than that?
24. There is good and bad in every style of music and not everyone likes the same thing (though lots of kids like really bad pop!) but take a few examples of good current pop, e.g. Mika, Scissor Sisters, The Hoosiers
