Who are the most famous Japanese pop singers at the moment?
Public Comments
- Avril Lavigne- they still like to sing in English over there.
- Ayumi Hamasaki, I think? :) Koda Kumi and the like. As for idol groups, Johnny's still dominate. KAT-TUN, Arashi, NEWS, SMAP... [I prefer Arashi though]. Girl groups from Hello! Project are also well known, as far as I know. BoA and Tohoshinki [Number 1 on the Oricon chart yesterday! Number 2 today. lol] are pretty popular too, although they are Korean.
- Asking "the most" to Japanese is a bit tough. They don't use that term in life so much. There are various artists in Japan and . Below are recent hits (There are much more. however, since Japanese labels request deletion to YouTube so soon, I could find followings only.) Sobani irune - Aoyama Teruma http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lryGLP-nIHs 60s 70s 80s - Amuro Namie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8hRlhl3_ZI Fumetsu no face - B'z http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0N-skgiJWrA pure - EXILE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BcBAScCvkE And I like following songs, too. Umiyuki - Jero http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwTFJ-Vwbgs Konayuki - Remioromen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DayRtlDtfg Korean artists usually appear in the daily ranking only and never stay in the annual ranking, since Japanese listeners are very fickle.
- Utada Hikaru, Ayumi Hamasaki, Namie Amuro, Ai Otsuka, and BoA
- I just came back from japan. There was an artist that stuck out named Jero. He's a black american and part japanese. He dresses hip hop but sings ENKA! (real oldskool japanese music). I've seen him interviewed a couple times on television and saw his CD right front in stores like HMV.
- Ayumi Hamasaki Kumi Koda Hikaru Utada
