I went to an AA meeting last night?

I am a recovering Alcoholic of 2 years and 7 months and when I first went into AA I was really scared like most people are, you imagine it to be a load of dossers out of the gutter sitting in a room, your imagination takes you here there and everywhere!! The first meeting I ever went to, was the BEST hour and half of my entire life, (and I have had some good times believe me)......... You see I went with an open mind and I listened to other people and found such similarities between everyone in the room, being Doctor's, Policemen, School Teachers, Solicitors, even Pop Stars, and then of course the average Joe bloggs.Well last night I took a newcomer to a Meeting, and I don't want to jump to any conclusions but she felt so good afterwards, my point is that I read on here a lot, people being scared about AA or NA meetings and people asking if they are alcoholic and I just want to say that if you would like a total turn around in life theres a free chair for you in any where in the world. It can save your life if you wish it to, it can turn your life around to the point that Miracles can and do happen. So to anyone on here doubtfull, scared Please go to a meeting, and another, and another, it works. Love to you all. xxx

  2. Nice Question full of hope for people.......I`ll drink to that(only a diet coke mind !!!!)
  3. AA and NA are some good ways to overcome what controls you i have been to both but only as a supporting friend and I'm glad its there to help people out. CONGRATULATIONS ON STAYING CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. If its worked for you then brilliant, but many people don't realise they have a drink problem, often until its too late. Im glad that its turned your life around and that you are now a drink free happy individual.
  5. Good for you. For many people, these meetings are a first time for them to actually speak out loud seriously about their drinking habits to others who will listen and not judge. For an alcoholic, trying to talk seriously about that subject to anyone else usually gets a different response. Loved ones and friends will judge or wouldn't understand, while others in AA will.
  6. Cheers for that Rachelle and remember....one day at a time.
  7. Hi, Ive been going to AA meetings for about a year now, it is a great place to be able to say what's on your mind, without people judging you. There is a misconception that AA is quite religous, it isn't!! Your "higher power" can be whatever you want it to be (Mine is Bono from U2...lol). I have been sober now for 14 months, yes, its been tough, but a very interesting and emotional journey. Congratulations on your continuing sobriety.
  8. hiya first of all well done for all the hard wok u've done i lived with an alcoholic and it's not easy keep up the brilliant work u've done so far xx

  11. Congratulations on your 2 years and 7 months! It's great that you're helping others through it too. I'm sure you have just helped a lot more people who have been apprehensive about going to AA or NA meetings by posting this. Thankfully I'm not one of those people but I can greatly appreciate what you're doing. If you're not already doing so, I suggest you go and help people on forums etc. I think it would be a great comfort to them knowing that you have been through the same. You can tell them the truth about AA meetings, stop their imaginations running wild and help them towards their first step to recovery. keep it up! well done! :)
