- Why are they WHAT???
- I think you mean "who". Try Cecilia Bartolli, Italian, female and wonderful
- Do you want only females? However, you do say then "he".. In that case, I will mention JUAN DIEGO FLOREZ From Peru, outstanding and leading today's opera singer, of who Pavarotti himself said..You will be my successor. Mr. Florez lives in Rome, just got married and is really a great male singer.
- Are you looking for 'famous' singers or 'good' ones ? Neither list fully includes the other. I'd consider essentially famous: - Cecilia Bartoli, Mezzo; specializes in production of CD's and concerts (seldom operas) in tiny theaters, due to her very scarce volume. Baroque, belcanto. Nice but not tall. - Daniela Dessì, Soprano; Verdi, Puccini. Married to tenor Fabio Armiliato. Sells high, but slumps abund. Imperially beautiful. I'd consider essentially good: - Fiorenza Cedolins, Soprano; Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti; currently pregnant (best wishes). Slightly declining vocally, very intelligent. Elegant, charmante. - Barbara Frittoli, Soprano; a great Desdemona. Sometimes recalls Tebaldi. Blonde and romantic. -Tiziana Fabbricini, Soprano; a great Traviata. Tall, intriguing. I'd consider supremely good: - Daniela Barcellona, Mezzo; Rossini, belcanto, Bellini, chamber music. The best in her repertoire. Interpreting mainly male roles doesn't help her look. - Mariella Devia, Soprano; coloritura, Bellini, Donizetti. Outstanding agility. Unluckily rounding 60 yr.
- She is not italian but greek but i defy anyone to find a better mezzo soprano than Agnes Baltsa, anyone seen her in Carmen with Jose Carerras ?...................oh my...............
- Waltraud Meier, great wagnerian singer.
