How do you list music by artist on an IPod through ITunes?

I can make playlists for each artist but when i use the IPod, under artist, it will list an artist mutliple times...

1. thats sounds confusing on itunes u make a playlist and then click artist and it will group the artists together! Thats what i dd for mine isnt it working for u? Well i guess no what typ of ipod do u have?
