How do you copy a list of artists names from a music file into a word doc without copying the songs?

I have about 50,000 songs (1450 artists) on a portable Hard Drive and I want to make a list of the artists so that I can let my friends see what I have to choose from? I keep trying to copy and paste but I get an error message. Is there any way to just copy the artists names and/or song names to a word document? Thanks in advance!

1. Assuming that all the ID3 Tags are correct, you can use iTunes to copy your library to an Excel Spreadsheet. Do edit>select all and copy. Then open Excel and paste it in there. Then adjust your cells to the right size to display all the info. The end result is only as good as the initial product. If your songs aren't tagged correctly to start with, they won't look good when exported.
