7. I'd have to go with Van Morrison, simply for the sheer body of work produced. His "Gloria" is probably one of the most covered songs of all time (Jimi Hendrix, Patti Smith etc). Totally rock and roll. His songs are used in movies to really set the mood, "Someone Like You" at the end of Bridget Jones Diary, for example. Bright Side of the Road at the end of John Travolta's Michael. Totally romantic. He has hit songs that still play on KOST and the oldies stations - Moondance, Brown-eyed Girl, Bright Side of the Road and on and on. He's one of the great songwriters of the past 50 years, he's been true to his craft and has never "sold out" and continues to produce work. I'd challenge anyone to find someone to compare him to beyond Tom Waits and Bruce Springsteen or even Cole Porter.
