Why don't music artist put out double albums to sell more records?

Why don't music artist put out double albums to sell more records ? If they put out one album that has two discs in it, each album sold would be counted as two albums. If they were to sell 500,000 albums, it would go platinum because there would be two discs in each album. Why don't music artist do this to sell more records ?

1. because it costs less to do one disc... and it is the cheap way out.
