Do retail clothing stores make more money when they play pop music?
I notice this in clothing stores that sell "cool" clothes. Today, I was in Nine West and heard pop music. I also heard it in Structure years ago. Actually, lots of clothing stores do that, and it seems to put me in the mood to buy. It gives me that "dance club" feeling that makes me think I need to look cool. What I wonder is if it's possible to measure the difference in sales with and without music.

- I suspect it depends on what kind of clothes they sell. If they are trying to appeal to teens, then playing music teens like to listen to would be a good idea. If they are selling business suits, then something that appeals to a different demographic would probably be better (I tend to linger more in stores that are playing Jazz). If they sell formal clothing that would suit going to the Opera, then classical might be their best bet..... except during prom season when a switch to pop might be smart.
